Survey of Wells

Survey of Wells

CLIP has since 1997 with funds allocated from Danida through three phases constructed about 100 hand dug wells within the three districts Yendi, Karaga and Gushegu. During phase I (1997-2001) 10 HDW wells were constructed, during phase II (2002-2005) 30 HDW and during phase III (2006-2010) 60 HDW were constructed. The purpose of the EWB-DK assistance to CLIP was to establish the documentation of the success in providing a hand dug well as safe water point source in communities, thus providing the basis for advocacy on the use of the hand dug well technology option as a more cost beneficial technology than drilling of deep bore wells particularly in the hydrogeological difficult areas in the Northern Region. The assistance mainly consisted of field visits to all of the 100 wells in order to collect data on the geographical and topographical location, physical and functionality status of well and hand pump, depth of well, depth of water table, water production capacity of the well, geological rock type, utilization of the well, villagers experience and opinions. There was a need for using standard format sheet for the different type of data to be collected.

The project contributes to clean water and sanitation in compliance with the current UN Sustainable Development Goals.
