For this project, EWB-DK was contacted by Children Without Borders Denmark for assistance in the improvement of water supply in the community of Sifoe in the Gambia, by means of an expansion of the existing water pipe scheme. EWB-DK prepared a detailed design, drawings, layouts, construction guidelines and BoQs for tender. As part of the project, a solar powered submersible pump was installed, along with a distribution network (3,700 meters) and 20 new stand posts around the village, providing approximately 2.400 inhabitants with access to clean water. Access to water is organized with payment to the Village Water Committee, which will use the income for maintenance and future expansion of the network to cover the growing population of Sifoe.
The project contributes to clean water and sanitation and affordable and clean energy in compliance with the current UN Sustainable Development Goals.
