Bwama Village Water Supply
It is proposed to establish one to three new boreholes of 60 to 100 m depth. Properly designed well bases should be made and testing, monitoring and maintenance procedures established and the wells equipped with a mechanical pump. The cost is estimated at 100,000 DKK per borehole all inclusive. As the average annual rainfall exceeds 1100 mm and the village is surrounded by hills, there is a good basis for establishing water retention ponds. These will enable the development of agriculture, cultivating fruit trees and all in all provide a basis for alternative economic activity.
The project contributes to clean water and sanitation in compliance with the current UN Sustainable Development Goals.

- Partner Organization: The Bwama village is located some 70 km from Dar es Salaam. There is a severe water shortage for drinking and other household uses as well as for agriculture. The present drinking water supply is based on shallow wells and in the dry season women are standing in queue for up to 12 hours to get one day’s water needs. At present the main economic activity in the area is producing charcoal from natural trees. This is resulting in massive deforestation and in the end there will be no basis for living in the village.
